KIM OANH NGUYEN
is an award-winning photojournalist and art photographer based in Portland, Oregon.
Born in Laos, Kim immigrated with her family to the United States when she was 7 years old. She is a 1996 graduate of the University of Oregon School of Journalism.
Kim has spent the last decade as a freelance photojournalist for several regional newspapers and national magazines. In 2001 she went back to Southeast Asia to document her family's escape from Laos. It was this experience that inspired her to continue her passion in photojournalism. In 2004 she traveled to the Philippines with reporter Kristen Hannum to cover a feature on poverty and the country's economic state. Although some of her work dealt with serious issues, she found time to search for the orginal French Vietnamese baguette in Paris in 2005.
