Biography
Kim Oanh Nguyen is an award-winning photographer based in Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington, specializing in headshots and company culture photography. With more than two decades of freelance photojournalism experience—working for newspapers, magazines, and online publications across the United States and internationally—she brings something many portrait photographers simply do not: a journalist’s instinct for authentic, unguarded moments.
A graduate of the University of Oregon School of Journalism, Kim developed her eye for finding truth within a scene rather than manufacturing it. That foundation continues to shape her work today. Where others focus on posing and perfection, Kim observes, connects, and responds in real time. The result is photography that feels genuine, personal, and human.
Her approach to lighting is equally intentional. Rather than flattening or over-stylizing, it is used to reveal character and presence. Whether photographing a founder energized by their vision, a team collaborating naturally, or an individual stepping in front of the camera for the first time, Kim knows how to capture the spirit of her subjects with honesty and care.
